The Generalized Stokes’ Theorem
This paper will prove the generalized Stokes Theorem over kdimensional manifolds. We will begin from the definition of a k-dimensional manifold as well as introduce the notion of boundaries of manifolds. Using these, we will construct the necessary machinery, namely tensors, wedge products, differential forms, exterior derivatives, and integrals over manifolds, in order to prove the main result...
متن کاملStokes’ Theorem
I. Introduction. Stokes' theorem on a manifold is a central theorem of mathematics. Special cases include the integral theorems of vector analysis and the Cauchy-Goursat theorem. My purpose here is to prove this version of Stokes' Theorem. Let ω be a continuous differential (n − 1)-form on a compact oriented n-manifold M with boundary ∂M. Suppose that ω is differen-tiable on M − ∂M and dω is Le...
متن کاملThe Classical Version of Stokes’ Theorem Revisited
Abstract. Using only fairly simple and elementary considerations essentially from first year undergraduate mathematics we show how the classical Stokes’ theorem for any given surface and vector field in R follows from an application of Gauss’ divergence theorem to a suitable modification of the vector field in a tubular shell around the given surface. The two stated classical theorems are (like...
متن کاملOn the Non-Abelian Stokes Theorem
We present the non-Abelian Stokes theorem for the Wilson loop in various forms and discuss its meaning. Its validity has been recently questioned by Faber, Ivanov, Troitskaya and Zach. We demonstrate that all points of their criticism are based on mistakes in mathematics. Finally, we derive a variant of our formula for the Wilson loop in lattice regularization.
متن کاملStokes Theorem and the Equations of GRMHD
The general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) code of De Villiers & Hawley (2003; DH) has been used to study the accretion of matter onto black holes. It is a highly stable 3 + 1D code that has been used to simulate in great detail the evolution of accretion disks in the spacetime of Kerr black holes. This code has established the ubiquity of energetic axial jets in such environments (De...
